Mossy Trail Speedpainting - Steps by daPatches Mossy Trail Speedpainting - Steps by daPatches
<---final image

Not much of a tutorial per se but some screengrabs through the process of the mossy trail speedpainting since some people asked me about it. I didn't keep good track of the time on this as it was squeezed here and there throughout the day. Under 2 hours though? Not very speedy I guess. I used to spend hours and hours and hours and hours on stuff like this though hahaha. So speedier? XD

It’s all just done with the lasso tool, gradient tool and basic round brush. (At the end I worked with the levels and added some sharpness and grain too) I’m really REALLY bad at painting loose and sketchy things so this is still pretty new to me.Trying to get outside of my over-rendering and zooming-in-on-everything comfort zone. It’s a very good exercise. No zooming really either. Original file was only 1200x1800px. I look forward to rendering some landscapes further into a final illustration at some point. Right now, I’m addicted to these quick ones. P:

Nice.
Really nice.
Damn it's nice!

I really envy you the ability of painting with the lasso tool. I tried so many a times and failed at every single attempt.

Haha I fail at trying to do it the "normal" way. Still trying to hone a workflow.

Your scenery is just fantastic so this means a lot coming from you. Thanks!

I think using the lasso tool like this might go really well with your style! It could look very "cut paper".

Thank you very much for sharing this. It never ceases to amaze how you can start with a few sketchy lines and yet end up with something so well-executed. Great job!

tbh I used to think the same way about backgrounds and stuff. I still feel like it's magic sometimes! Now I wish I could do it all the time with other things like figures XD
